RAS Mains Exam Structure

The number of candidates to be admitted to the Main Examination will be 15 times the total approximate number of vacancies to be filled in the year through the examination but in the said range all those candidates who secure the same marks as may be fixed by the Commission for any lower range will be admitted to the Main Examination.

The written examination will consist of the following four papers which will be descriptive /analytical.

A candidate must take all the papers listed below which will also consist of question paper of brief, medium, long answer and descriptive type questions.

The standard of General Hindi and General English will be that of Sr. Secondary Level. The time allowed for each paper shall be 3 hours.

Paper I General Studies –I 200 marks 3 Hours
Paper I General Studies –II 200 marks 3 Hours
Paper I General Studies –III 200 marks 3 Hours
Paper I General Studies –IV 200 marks 3 Hours

Understanding the Exam Structure

General Studies Papers Strategy

General Studies-I

General Studies-II

Strategy: Dive into economy, budgeting, banking, and financial management. Discuss agricultural and industrial development, technological advancements, and environmental issues.

General Studies-III

Strategy: Concentrate on governance, constitution, polity, public administration, and ethical issues. Understand the Indian political system and its functioning.

General Hindi and General English Paper Strategy

Strategy: Brush up on grammar, comprehension, précis writing, and translation skills in both Hindi and English. Practice essay and letter writing to enhance language proficiency.

Essay Writing Formula

Formula: Introduction + Body Paragraphs + Conclusion = Effective Essay

Introduction: Provide an overview of the topic.

Body Paragraphs: Present arguments, examples, and counter-arguments.
