Aloo Matar Recipe

Ingredients:🥕

  • 2 potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 cup green peas (matar), fresh or frozen
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, finely chopped or pureed
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 green chili, slit lengthwise
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil or ghee
  • Fresh coriander leaves, for garnishing

Instructions:🌶️

  1. Heat oil or ghee in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add cumin seeds to the hot oil and let them splutter.
  3. Add finely chopped onions to the pan and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  4. Add ginger-garlic paste and slit green chili. Sauté for a couple of minutes until the raw smell disappears.
  5. Add chopped tomatoes or tomato puree to the pan. Cook until they turn soft and mushy.
  6. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt to the pan. Mix well to combine with the onions and tomatoes.
  7. Add cubed potatoes and green peas to the pan. Mix well to coat them with the spice mixture.
  8. Cover the pan with a lid and let the mixture cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and cooked through, stirring occasionally.
  9. Once the potatoes and peas are cooked, sprinkle garam masala powder over the Aloo Matar. Mix well to incorporate.
  10. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  11. Garnish the Aloo Matar with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
  12. Serve hot Aloo Matar with roti, naan, or rice for a delicious and comforting meal!
