Bhindi Masala Recipe 🍽️

Ingredients:

  • 250 grams okra (bhindi), washed and dried
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 green chili, slit lengthwise
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Fresh coriander leaves, for garnishing

Instructions:

  1. Trim the ends of the okra and slice them lengthwise into halves or quarters, depending on their size.
  2. Heat oil in a large pan or kadhai over medium heat.
  3. Add cumin seeds to the hot oil and let them splutter.
  4. Add finely chopped onions to the pan and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  5. Add ginger-garlic paste and slit green chili. Sauté for a couple of minutes until the raw smell disappears.
  6. Add finely chopped tomatoes to the pan. Cook until they turn soft and mushy.
  7. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt to the pan. Mix well to combine with the onions and tomatoes.
  8. Add the sliced okra to the pan. Mix well to coat them with the spice mixture.
  9. Cover the pan with a lid and let the okra cook over medium-low heat for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  10. Once the okra is cooked and tender, sprinkle garam masala powder over them. Mix well to incorporate.
  11. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  12. Garnish the Bhindi Masala with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
  13. Serve hot Bhindi Masala with roti, naan, or rice for a delicious North Indian meal.
