Gulab Jamun Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Gulab Jamun:
- 1 cup milk powder
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 tablespoons ghee or unsalted butter, melted
- 2-3 tablespoons milk
(adjust as needed to form a soft dough)
- A pinch of cardamom powder
(optional)
- Chopped nuts for garnishing
(optional)
For the Sugar Syrup:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- A few strands of saffron (optional)
- 1 teaspoon rose water or cardamom powder (optional)
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, combine milk powder, all-purpose flour, and baking powder. Mix well.
- Add melted ghee or unsalted butter to the dry ingredients. Mix until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
- Gradually add milk to the mixture and knead until it forms a soft and smooth dough. If the dough is too dry, add a little more milk. Be careful not to over-knead.
- Cover the dough and let it rest for about 15-20 minutes.
- While the dough is resting, prepare the sugar syrup. In a saucepan, combine granulated sugar and water. Bring it to a boil, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves completely.
- Add saffron strands and rose water or cardamom powder to the sugar syrup for flavor. Simmer the syrup for 5-7 minutes until it slightly thickens. Remove from heat and set aside.
- After the resting time, divide the dough into small, equal-sized balls and roll them between your palms to form smooth balls. Ensure there are no cracks.
- Heat ghee or oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, lower the heat to low-medium.
- Gently slide the prepared dough balls into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry the Gulab Jamun on low-medium heat, stirring occasionally, until they turn golden brown and evenly colored.
- Remove the fried Gulab Jamun from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain excess oil by placing them on a paper towel.
- Reheat the sugar syrup if needed. While the syrup is still warm, carefully drop the fried Gulab Jamun into the syrup.
- Allow the Gulab Jamun to soak in the sugar syrup for at least 2-3 hours or overnight for best results.
- Garnish with chopped nuts if desired.
- Serve the delicious Gulab Jamun warm or at room temperature.
Enjoy the heavenly sweetness of homemade Gulab Jamun!
